If the story is true, the Dr. Phil show is responsible for bailing out a teen accused of being part of a group that beat a fellow student. I'm so glad that Dr. Phil and his friends are right there to help out these kids and help "educate" the American public at the same time. I'm sure this episode will rank right up there with the "Jena 6" episodes in popularity.
How should one group shows like these? They clearly aren't the "yell at each other because I done cheated on you with your sister" Jerry Springer sorts of shows. They have almost an air of authentic objectivity about them, what with TV news becoming what it is...
A clear violation of ethical journalistic standards. And no, ethical journalism doesn't necessarily have to be an oxymoron.
