Winter Activities!

Rose insisted we celebrate Valentine's Day by making cupcakes.  We made 42 cupcakes on Thursday and today only two are left.

Woodjie has decided he hates frosting.  So decorating his cupcakes is a pretty simple task.

Emperor wants popcorn and candy hearts in his frosting.

Rose isn't one to just have two or three or something.  She poured the entire jar of Hello Kitty heads onto her after-lunch cupcakes.  :/

Recently I made teddy bear pancakes.  I used a frosting dispenser to squeeze out the batter in just the right amounts.  Messy, but the results are pretty good if I do say so myself.

Woodjie and Rose are playing an addition game I made up using UNO cards.  I took all the skip, reverse and so on cards out and left just the numbers.  Each child gets a card and the child with the highest number has to add the two cards together and then "keep" the cards until the end of the game.  We need to work on memorizing our addition math facts.

Taking a break and watching a short Brain Pop, Jr. clip.  Hope your winter is also going well!

  1. You would be amazed at how many school children are NOT encouraged to memorize math facts. It explains a lot.

    1. It takes a long time, though! And cursive! I feel as though we will be doing this forever. I can see where it would be very tempting to skip for some teachers, each assuming the other would get to it. :)

  2. *Gasp* And here I always thought cupcakes were a mere vehicle FOR frosting! lol

Looks like the kiddos are having fun and staying busy. That is great to repurpose the game cards so they can memorize facts while it feels like fun!

    1. I think not having any milk products for years makes Woodjie's tastes a little different. He used to love milk as a toddler and now can't stand the stuff. *shrug* He's skinnier than me so more power to him.

  4. Mmm, cupcakes....but I love the teddy bear pancake!! May I save that picture? I'd like to print it for my niece, she might like to make some for her baby when he is older. Right now he is only 5 months old, so no pancakes for him yet.

My kids played adding up games with a few large dice.

Bringing Garbage Home

Some people up the street were throwing this table away. It was in pretty bad shape and one of the legs was off. I've glued the leg back...
