Martha Lafite Thompson Nature Sanctuary

We went to the Martha Lafite Thompson Nature Sanctuary today.  Once a month, they have a program for homeschoolers.  On our walk, we found a little turtle!
Rose was brave enough to pet the "hissing cockroach" that was on display.

Yikes!  We found this on our nature walk, too! It was about 20 feet long.  Okay... maybe closer to about two feet.  But we all jumped when we discovered one another.

Leopard slugs.

Salamanders.

    1. They come from the rainforest, not local here. Sound EXACTLY like a cat hissing. Scary.

  2. We have a salamander loose in our house somewhere. I told Ben I hope he likes ants. There are times he could be fat and happy here...

    1. Salamanders are kinda cute! I was surprised their poop is like, a third of their body weight or something... (Ok was that TMI?)

    1. The boys hiss louder than the girls. What they SAY is, they wouldn't be able to live in this environment if they were released. Novelty item, I guess. But loud!

  4. I would love to find a turtle! But not a snake that's for sure, we don't have snakes in New Zealand, except in Zoos.

Bringing Garbage Home

Some people up the street were throwing this table away. It was in pretty bad shape and one of the legs was off. I've glued the leg back...
