Chess Camp!

Emperor has just returned from the Anatoly Karpov International School of Chess, where he's attended camp with GM Var Akobian.  He had such a great time.
The camp is held in Lindsborg, Kansas, which was settled by Swedes.  Want to see police and fire signs in Swedish?  Your town.  It's also populated with lots of horses like this.  They're called "Dala Horses."
The town is called "Little Sweden" and there are Swedish craft shops, Swedish restaurants, and the local high school team is called... The Swedes.
Emperor really wants to move here.  If I have to leave the big city, I want a house like this one.

  1. That house does look lovely. Not sure about the pink and blue, but the style is what I like.

    1. I'm figuring the louder the better. I'm pretty sure this style of house is called the "Painted Lady." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Painted_ladies

  2. Ben's Birth Mama is Swedish...We used to go to Lindsberg once a year and take his picture on that red Dala horse when we lived in Kansas, the first 4 years of his life. Swedish pancakes are good, and we loved the Berger Sandzen art museum. Brings back good memories!

Congrats to Emperor, I am sure it was well earned!!

    1. Wow! And I will bet you have eaten at the Swedish Crown, and shopped in that little grocery store... :)

If you've ever been to the Viking Motel, don't go back. A foreign family bought it. They don't speak English well, you can't call any of the rooms, and it is FULL of roaches. And no air-conditioning. Seriously, what a flea bag they put the kids up in this year. I guess Bethany College weasled out at the last minute.

What I heard was, they quoted one price for all the rooms and then when they got there? Charged 'em $600 extra.

    2. I meant the motel did, not the college. I hear with the college, the director had to leave or something (who knows).

Bringing Garbage Home

Some people up the street were throwing this table away. It was in pretty bad shape and one of the legs was off. I've glued the leg back...
