Happenings at Home

An old picture of a little girl.
We're back into some sort of summer routine now.  Emperor is back at the community center taking lessons on "how to swim and not die."

Elf is curled up with Minecraft in the basement and Patrick is doing some sort of game on his computer.  Since G moved out last October, they've shared a room in the basement and just sort of sit near each other and do their own thing.  G is doing very well, by the way.  He visited us last weekend and played foam swordfights with some of the children in the backyard.

Woodjie and Rose are upstairs right now playing "educational games" on the kindle.  I can trust them both with my (password locked so they can't buy anything or watch racy movies) kindle because Rose?  Is going through a tattle-tale phase.  I'm gonna use that to my advantage.  Woodjie alone with the kindle would mean "Pokemon movies" with the Pokemon app non-stop.  (He loves that!)

Rose and Emperor have been going to little chess tournaments nearby.  A game or two a week.  Between that and the Kansas Open a bit ago, Emperor is finally crawling out of a slump.

About it.  How's your summer going?

I did get the rest of my garden planted and discovered I didn't buy nearly enough plants.

    1. I love your walking pics, River, and look forward to seeing your garden grow when I'm iced in this winter. :) OK, not the iced in part...

  3. Ohhhh, July has been packed full of extra kids because I'm too nice to say no. LOL. I finally said no to more kids this last week. I'm done. I miss just being with my kids. Other than that I'd have to say we had an AWESOME month of June. We did so many adventures. My favorite month in a long time. Ryan broke his foot in and June and broke out in hives in July. That poor boy has been on 4 meds. Other than that, I'm soooo glad to go back to our routine!

As much as I hate tattle telling. Sometimes it can be a blessing. I always tell my kids to tattle if someone is watching something racy or if someone is in danger. Those are the two reasons. ;D

    1. I look at tattling as a preventive. See, otherwise no WAY I could trust the kids with the kindle.

I keep looking at your pics and wondering if this kid still has SPIKES coming out of his foot. That whole process is scary.

  4. My winter sucks! Ian is a mess. And the little kids are still having access every week which makes life really hard. They come back every Friday aggressive and clingy. By Wednesday they are sort of back to normal and it starts again Friday. For the first time tonight I really wondered if I wanted to keep doing this, but then I hear baby Cookie snoring in her crib and I just cry some more. Of course we'll keep doing it. Blah.

    1. What's probably hardest is the not knowing. Not knowing how this is going to turn out and who is keeping those kids. I think they know on some level it is possible they will have to go back. And it's hard.

    1. He's doing so well now, though. It was a "chess slump," not depression. :)

Bringing Garbage Home

Some people up the street were throwing this table away. It was in pretty bad shape and one of the legs was off. I've glued the leg back...
