Just Humour Me and Read This, OK?

I want you to do something.  Go take a look around your house.  Do you have a working smoke detector near your kitchen?  Do you have one near the sleeping areas of the house and at least one on each floor?  I'm asking this because I'm seeing folks who do NOT.  And it gets me worried.  So I'm blogging.

And please would you check on your elderly friends and relatives?  Maybe even be a little nosy. We're dealing with some elderly folks who forgot that they had over 200 pounds of ammunition and a bunch of butane lying around.  Not even kidding.  I'm all for "live free or die" and all that but please don't take that too literally and bring the whole 'hood with ya.  (Yeah, it's been dealt with... but sheesh).

I just received this fire safety guide in my email a few weeks back from ConsumerSafety.org and thought I would share it with you. Another thing I've found very helpful are the talks our local fire department gives in the community from time to time.  Your fire department may help you with fire prevention and often, they give smoke detectors for free or reduced cost to people in need.

I hope everyone is having a great week.  Sorry I haven't been blogging as much as usual... we've been dealing with stuff don'cha know.

  1. These elderly folks have working smoke detectors ... and no ammo (yet) 😀 After all, I'm a swordsman and made sure the dueling weapons were hung .. ready to go .. on the office wall.

    Thanks for asking!

  2. We all have working smoke detectors, it's a law here in Australia, passed several years ago that landlords had to fit them in the rental properties and all new home were to be constructed with smoke alarms; owners of older homes were encouraged to have them installed. I don't know anyone who doesn't have one. Here in the flats, the alarms get tested once a year during the home inspections.
I just don't get why anyone would want tons of ammunition and butane on their property. It seems to be what Americans do, not all of them of course.

    1. 200 pounds is the equivalent of about 91 kilos. A little more than ya'd need to fend off the bad guys, even in the Wild West.

Most Americans don't keep that much readily on hand on their property. This would be enough to arm an entire militia. :)

  3. Oooh wow, 200 pounds of ammunition forgotten about?! That is something else! That much must be worth a fortune if it was still in good condition.

We have a smoke detector or two... It is quite annoying when they go off when we cook though. Ha. I just saw a meme the other day about how great it would be to have a smoke detector that turns off when you yell, "Be quiet, I'm cooking!"

    1. Perfect for arson, though... imagine the bad guy yelling, "I'm cooking!" as he runs away. :)

Bringing Garbage Home

Some people up the street were throwing this table away. It was in pretty bad shape and one of the legs was off. I've glued the leg back...
