My Kitchen Counter

Well, I'm repainting the bathroom and it's a very SMALL bathroom (about the size of a closet), so all my shampoos and assorted things are up here in the kitchen.  My, is my shampoo all gunky with hard water and not as clean as I thought.  I need to just pitch the over-shower sprayer caddy also.  Yeew.  Maybe I need to just pitch everything.  Aaand we've left the barbecue sauce on the countertop.

Ever do 500 things around the house all in one day and by the end of the day everything in your home is a jumbled mess?  That's my day today.

Also?  In retrospect I am almost finished painting the bathroom a hideous colour.  It looked nice on the tin but now it's on the wall I'm thinking, why, why did you do that?  Dark brown isn't a bad colour but it's bringing out all the little nicks and defects on the walls and making the teeny room look even smaller.

I had thought that a dark colour would just withstand the usual bumps and scuffs better.  Oh well.  We're sticking with this for at least a little while because I just don't want to do more work than I have to at this point.

  1. Dark colours rarely work in small rooms, unless it's used as a feature on just one wall and even then I don't think I'd be tempted to try it. I'd be more inclined to go with a light colour with a washable surface. Do you have tiles on any pert of the wall apart from the shower? I'm just assuming your shower is tiled.

    1. No, my shower is a plastic box basically. Oh well. I'll go with a lighter colour next time. Or do all the walls except the one with the mirror on it (it's small above a counter ledge).

  2. so there's no tiled areas in the whole bathroom? I've never seen a bathroom without tiled walls and floor, not since the 50s-60s anyway, even if it is just tiled for the shower and above the bath, the floor is always tiled, so the room is waterproof and more easily cleaned. I have seen plastic box shower stalls, but installed in a corner with tiled surrounds.
Because I see tiled bathrooms everywhere, I always assume that is what everyone has. Usually the tiles don't go all the way to the ceiling, but in newer homes some people are doing that and I have to say I like that look. I'll find a picture in my files and send it to you.

  4. White shower curtain, white rugs (or at least the lightest color you can stand)... It will be fine.

    1. I posted a pic of the bathroom. It's so tiny that I'm afraid a white rug would get piddled on. :)

Bringing Garbage Home

Some people up the street were throwing this table away. It was in pretty bad shape and one of the legs was off. I've glued the leg back...
