Ann Coulter in the News

Oh, she says some things that aren't nice, but I like her! Her very blunt treatment of news items and people brings out what a lot of people are feeling, but are too "polite" to say. Elizabeth Edwards appeared on the news yesterday in some cloying attempt to ask Coulter to pretty please stop being so *mean* (boo hoo hoo) and mongering "hate." Did she really expect that Coulter would go, oh, I'm SO sorry to have offended you... I PROMISE to not get personal in any political discourse ever, ever again!

No.

This was a calculated move on the part of the Edwards campaign to raise money. Every time Coulter opens her mouth and says something they interpret as "hateful," the Edwards' website rakes in some cash. John Edwards was on NBC Hardball this morning talking about how brave his wife was, but paradoxically how the entire exchange on such subjects takes away from the REAL issues like health care and poverty. He just HAD to get those campaign platform items in right there. Ever the salesman with the $400 haircut.

He went on to say we as a nation have to counter "hate" wherever people speak it... and you can do that by donating to his campaign, folks. I'll spare you the *sniff* moving speech about those poor "African Americans" who had such a hard time, not because of sharecropping or Jim Crow, but because of HATEFUL SPEECH that we all have to work together to eradicate. Because I'm feeling that morning sickness coming on. Or maybe it's just the regular old gag reflex; hard to tell.

  1. LoL. You're joking right. Of course the Edwards campaign is a business, they are all businesses whose number one goal is to rake in every penny they can. Just like Ann Coulter.

I like her, too BTW. She's really good at pushing all the right buttons for the people who think she's on their side. She has found a ready bank of easy marks. Good for her. I wish I had the same. I don't believe a word she says, mostly because her bald faced lies are so well documented. Just do a five minute Google search. Seriously. You'll find them proven right before you.

Ann Coulter's previous flub, where she called Mr. Edwards a faggot reminded me of the 2004 election. You remember when Whoopi Goldberg said a crapload of crass things about Pres. Bush, and John Kerry got up afterward and said something to the effect of "Yeah, thanks, that was great"? It's the whole problem with celebrities in politics. They say all kinds of rough, mean garbage because it benefits them and perpetuates their market. Then the politician or party they supposedly support is sent running for cover.

Anyway, had to comment because I saw part of the Coulter interview, too. It's just rare to find anyone like myself that is willing to admit they like the hag, even if it is for entirely different reasons.

  2. Supercameron, thank you for stopping by my blog!

I don't think that the "faggot" incident was a flub exactly. I think she was playing with words by saying she CAN'T call Edwards a faggot or she'll have to go to rehab. So she didn't quite call him that if you look at the transcripts closely. The effect is still pretty much the same though.

I can't imagine she *really* thinks Edwards is gay. I think it's more like what you said, she's making money on people who enjoy her clever stabs at people and politics that seem like sacred cows. At the time, the news was rife with people saying bad things about Jews, gays, blacks, or whatever and then saying, oh, sorry, it was SO wrong of me and now I'm going to learn all about them, spend lotsa time with them and go into rehab so I can learn to watch my mouth. (You know what? If I received the crass "lynching" comment I wouldn't want to be spending lots of time with anyone like that. But I digress...) I think the comment was very funny for THAT reason.

I'm not saying she's "nice" or that I'd want her working on my campaign if I were running for office though.

I found her remarks after the World Trade Center attacks to be the only ones widely broadcast to express absolute, unqualified anger at the Muslims who did this to our country. It made me literally sick to see the devastation on one hand they caused, and then hear people like George Bush tell everyone to be nice to their "Muslim friends." (That is an oxymoron if I ever heard one...)

Even Jerry Falwell, who dared to argue that this may be God's payment for years of tolerating alternative lifestyles and sin, backpedalled when he figured out so many people were angered. But I happen to agree that it *might* have something to do with it. We see the same idea carried out countless times in the Bible when Israel as a NATION disobeyed the Lord. Honestly though, if you are not a believer and you do not believe in the same God, I *know* it sounds crazy. He should not have apologized for his beliefs, however.

Anyway, I guess my conclusion about her is that she is a very funny but very loose cannon. There are people like that on the left too.

I think I'm more astounded that the Edwards campaign plotted to look like "nice guys" trying to "raise the dialogue" by calling into the show. They really KNEW that all it would do is instigate Coulter into saying something ELSE they could cash in on LOL.

Hopefully the American people are not that stupid to fall for it, but I do wonder sometimes. Thankfully we are still a free enough country that I don't have to go into rehab for saying that. But that day may be coming soon when you look at what's going on in Europe.

  3. "Hate" is the catch phrase these days. Don't like someone's opinion? Accuse them of pedalling hate or hateful speech.

But, know what? Each Amercian has a constitutional right to hate whatever they want. And all the legislation in the world cannot regulate people's FEELINGS and THOUGHTS. We don't want a thought police! We don't need anyone telling us what things to love. And even if I don't care for a person's position and even if I don't agree with the things or people they hate, they still have a first ammendment right to express it.

Let 'em talk! Let others bring rebuttal! But, for the love of the constitution quit telling people what they cannot say or asking them to be nice or telling people to be quiet!

(I don't have morning sickness and I feel the same way you do. So I think it's just the regular old gag reflex!)

Bringing Garbage Home

Some people up the street were throwing this table away. It was in pretty bad shape and one of the legs was off. I've glued the leg back...
