A Florida pastor tells us that a vote for Romney is a vote for Satan! Don't vote for Satan, guys! http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/local/florida/sfl-601complaint,0,1736460.story?coll=sfla-home-headlines I think he means that the Mormon church is a little wacky and you don't want your President seriously believing this stuff. Mind you, the whole idea of Christianity is extremely crazy to people who are not of the faith!!
There is quite the outcry that this guy should lose his tax-exempt status for daring to say such a thing. Somehow, in our country religion and politics are supposed to be separate. Now, I can see where some people get an inkling of that idea based on the revulsion of the founding fathers to a STATE church that everyone is compelled to tithe to, but I think that's a *bit* of a stretch to say that all religious statements made by a pastor should not have any tinge of politics in them. It's so confusing! Our church will have a talk on an "issue" and that's apparently very legal. You can talk about the science of stem cell research and the sanctity of life in the same sermon but you CAN'T say that Democrat candidate X is for the research and Republican Candidate Y is not. I don't get it! It's like giving a big speech on all the qualities you want in a good peanut butter, but then never mentioning what you think the best brand would be.
I do wonder if the religious tax exemption is worth it if we have to stifle our pastors so.
I think the religious is necessarily going to be political. If we had no religious expression in politics, there would be no abolitionist movement. There would be no pro-life movement. We'd have a lot more trouble individually choosing our candidates, really. None of us individually have the time or the access to find out what each candidate's position on certain issues would be. The Christian Right, if nothing else, at least brings those questions to the table. And groups like Focus on the Family Action have been formed specifically for the purpose of informing voters and being a political influence.
God bless them, because there are certainly enough liberal organizations out there that would love to raise my taxes to pay for abortion on demand and social programs I don't agree with. Have you seen some of those anti-Bush blogs and stuff out there? These are people with a real anger problem and I hope they remain disenfranchised. I can't imagine people like that having the opportunity to rule the country. Though Bush to me is certainly not perfect. He's a bit liberal, but I suppose that is the most electable we can get. He has an extremely difficult job and we need to be in prayer for him and his cabinet and his successor.
Who hopefully will not be Mitt Romney. Or Hillary Clinton. Honest to goodness with leaders out there who don't even acknowledge God in our country... it makes me want to go straight to the book of Revelation and see if anything in the news lines up LOL. But we lived through Bill Clinton OK. I think. No, I don't want to think about it.
Blessings to you guys!

It's interesting that you are so critical of Mitt Romney when in all actuality, he stands for everything a Christian society should in fact be looking for in a President. If you spent more time looking up true reliable information on the man and his beliefs, rather than listening to your preacher, whom by the way is paid to brainwash you into believing such ludacris information as "a vote for Mitt is a vote for Satan", then maybe you would know truth. Here's an example for you. In 2000, when the Salt Lake City Olympics were in need of financial stability, Romney pulled through with a financial strategy that saved the Olympics from becoming bankrupt. If you would take the time and actually read what this outstanding man stands for, you would also know that he IS in fact a Christian, belonging to The Church of JESUS Christ of Latter Day Saints. The definition of a Christian is a person who believes in the Life and teachings of Jesus Christ, making Romney a true Christian. Would you rather have a man or woman in office that belittle's morality, and all we as Christians know to be true? If so, then by all means, disregaurd Romney. Please refrain from your slandering of Romney's name until you educate yourself accurately. Romney will do wonders for this country, I don't know, maybe get it out of the maximum deficate it is now in. If you want a president that stands for your needs as a Christian AND American conumer and citizen, look no further than Mitt Romney! Please rethink and reconsider what you are telling The United States until you have both read and contrasted real and accurate information.
ReplyDeleteLOL you didn't read my post very carefully. I don't think that a vote for Romney is necessarily a "vote for Satan." But I do think this pastor should be able to say what he feels politically (he is not my pastor, BTW).
ReplyDeleteWe all know Mormons to be good and moral people; however, this does not make them Christians in the Evangelical sense. My family is Catholic; Catholics generally are not considered Christian either. What it comes down to, really, is the relationship between a PERSON (not a church!) and JESUS. You believe Jesus died for your sins and rose the third day. You believe not just that he is the "son" of God, but that he IS God Himself. You believe that you need no mediator between yourself and God (Mary, saints, etc.)
Anyway, for what it's worth, that's what most Evangelical Christians would believe.
Romney, I grant you, is not as bad as Clinton. But he would NOT be my first choice for President.
