Flags of the World - My Family Room/Homeschool Area

It's starting to look like we'll never get to our boxed Social Studies curriculum again. Our Flat Stanleys are travelling the world and we keep reading books about the areas they travel. We do crafts and activities to get a little idea of how people live in other places. Recently, I checked out a book about flags because I got tired of being unable to answer their questions about what the flag of Kenya looks like or why there are stars on some flags and not others, and what all the colours mean. I thought the boys would just look at the book and put it away, but no. They had to draw flags every chance they got. I finally cut papers into quarters and had them make all the flags a uniform size so that we could display them properly. What you can't see is that on the back, each country name is labelled.

  3. Sometimes the best lessons are the ones you do that are not from a box. It sounds like they are learning quite a bit.

Bringing Garbage Home

Some people up the street were throwing this table away. It was in pretty bad shape and one of the legs was off. I've glued the leg back...
