I brought snacks, but wound up spending way too much money on pizza and coffee. I learned how long a six-hour tournament really is to live through with children who are losing more games than not. I also got a chance to chat with some very nice people from both Missouri and Kansas. Some people drove for hours to arrive at this tournament, but it was pretty close to home for us. I think if we were to go to another in the next year or so, I would be better prepared with sandwiches and *real* food. I would stop at a local coffee shop on the way rather than drink the "coffee" there. The prices were actually quite reasonable, but I was thinking more in terms of keeping to a good, moderately healthy diet instead of scarfing 3/4 of a pizza myself. ********************************************** ********* ** ************************* *************** ********* Next time we would also bring another game board for between-official-matches play. A local homeschooler won the K-3 division. Yay!

You do chess tournaments?! Oh my! I can barely play & I can beat Ditz hands down. Mind you, all the others can wipe the floor with me but I think only Jossie could have competed at this level ~& maybe Theo. He's been known to beat Joss on occassion...Joss did not accept defeat graciously.
ReplyDeleteWe're learning to accept defeat graciously... look at the post above this one LOL!
ReplyDeleteI will say that Emperor, to my knowledge, remembered to clap politely during the presentation and shook hands after each game, etc. He just needed to "regroup" after all that. *sniff*
What a good sport Emperor is. As an adult, I have had the experience of saying congratulations and then getting out as quick as I could so that I could regroup, quietly in my own home...
ReplyDeleteYeah, me too, Julie. Or the boo-hoo in the bathroom thing.
