GO Harry C. Alford!

Barbara Boxer says that the head of the NAACP would be "proud" to testify before her. Just as he would be "proud" of Alford being allowed to testify before her greatness. Alford calls her up on it and says that she's being condescending to him. Um, no kidding. Just look at the TONE this woman uses with him. Tell you what. I can disagree with you, but if you were to call me in to testify before you and tell me some other Irish-American group would be all "proud" that I was allowed to talk before you, I'd say something similar to what Alford says here. "I don't like it," he tells her. "It's racial. I don't like it. I take offense to it. As an African-American, and a veteran of this country, I take offense to it!" Yep. How about we talk about the merits (or lack thereof) of Alford's arguments instead of chatting about how proud he should be because she graciously allowed a black man in her presence? Offensive! Hat tip: Darren.

  1. Right on--as usual! You go with your Irish-American self! I am an English/Scottish/French/German/Native American myself.

  2. Liberals are more racist in my view than most anybody. I saw this exchange on Glenn Beck's show and was glad this gentleman called her out on it.

Oh yes, not to mention the arrest last night of distinguished Black Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates in his own home!! This happened because a neighbor woman (in progressive Cambridge) called police and complained thata "black man" was looking into the window of the house. It was gates and his chauffuer trying to open the stuck front door.

In such a progressive place as the Harvard community, why would a black man arouse suspicion?

    I'm just sayin'.

  3. Bonnie, I have a few more hyphens up my sleeve. Just the Irish ones are the most recently persecuted in my list. :]

Terry, what does this say about how well the caller knows her neighbours. I've seen only a few blatant instances of racism from "white trash" types. Most of the racism I see is paternalism, like you see on the video.

See, we have to be *specially* nice to people darker than ourselves to make up for that racism those poor, poor people experience every day. Tsk, tsk. Some of my best friends are black and I'll tell you, they're proud, PROUD to have the privilege of me being so nice to them.

(um, kidding if you couldn't figure that one out.)

    Sigh.

  4. Patrick watched the video and said while the exchange was funny, it left him dissatisfied.

    Hm.

I guess seeing people like Boxer still in power does leave a bad aftertaste in one's mouth. :]

  5. I just showed this to my husband earlier this evening. She absolutely was condescending and he was 100% right on for calling her out on it!

  6. Way to go, Mr. Alford!

My favorite line of his, "We have been looking at energy policy since 1996. And we are referring to the experts, regardless of their color. And for someone to tell me, an African-American, college educated veteran of the United States Army, that I must contend with some other black group and put aside everything else in here. This has nothing to do with the NAACP and really has nothing to do with the National Black Chamber of Commerce. We're talking energy!"

He is right on the mark with his anger! At the very least, Senator Boxer is patronizing him, if not being a complete racist! That would be like telling me I need to put Pamela in school because the NEA is made of a bunch of women and they are against homeschooling!

  7. Lori, I have to admit to having an ick feeling in the pit of my stomach the first time I watched it. The next time I was cheering Alford on. Now... I think the sick feeling was probably more on-target. But I'm glad lots of other people are watching it. I hope some of 'em live in California.

Tammy, you and I both know that we are unqualified to teach autistic children. Only NEA members know what is best for children with disabilities. Now I have here a resolution from the "Autism Speaks" organization that I am putting into the record...

    :p

Bringing Garbage Home

Some people up the street were throwing this table away. It was in pretty bad shape and one of the legs was off. I've glued the leg back...
