This guy is a real, actual congressman from Indiana (!??), and he thinks public schools should be just like the madrassas and teach children from the Koran. Probably only male children. This guy is elected? Ok, where are the newspeople and why haven't they pounced on this crackpot?
Ok... his first sentence and his last sentence were out of line... rather crack-pot-ish... I wanted to tune him out completely.
The part about looking at how kids learned kinestetic, visual, etc. was dead on. I we can remove the dogma from most people's statements, we will surely find some gems.
And mayyybe (trying to give benefit of the doubt) he just means that there are some things from Muslim culture that are positive and would be beneficial for all Americans. BUT. He didn't come across that way. He sounds like a hardliner Islamist dressed up like a liberal Democrat.
All the modern "kinesthetic learning" type stuff he's espousing is probably just manure. Madrassas are hardly free-thinking, learn as best suits you-type places from what I've read.
If my kids cannot attend a public school and say 'God' or have prayers during the day when this country was founded on Christian beliefs, I sure wouldn't be supporting that!

I would have liked to have heard more, but if he were Christian of Jewish, he would have been soundly thrashed by media.
ReplyDeleteHoly moley, no!

I hope not to support it, but doggone it if I don't pay taxes every year and it seems I don't get much say-so in what happens in the local schools...
