Oh, Wow.

Over 58,000 pounds of school lunch beef was recalled because of "customer complaints" about plastic in the food.   Brilliant.

Not mentioned in a recent news article?  How many children ate this stuff, what particular kind of plastic it was, how big the pieces of plastic were (were they ground with the beef and most pieces not noticeable?), and whether each and every consumer's family were informed of what took place.

There are, of course, no reported injuries or illness due to eating this meat.  Notice they never said how many children actually ate meat with bits of plastic in them.

Haven't we learned from our friends in India that school lunches are dangerous?

  1. This makes me glad that Australia doesn't have the same type of lunch system.
And also glad of course that the "plasticised" meat was recalled. Possibly it was an accidental inclusion, something dropped into the grinding machine that shouldn't have.

    1. Yes, I would imagine so as well. Accidents happen, but the unacceptable part is for it to get down to the consumer on such a large scale. This is why I'm not pro-school lunch. You simply CANNOT serve quality food on such a large scale. And when bad things happen, hundreds of children could be killed. Better to do the canteen system as they do in Aus.

  2. Scary that a customer complaint spurred the inspection, where was the inspection before this went out the door? Yuck.

    1. I'm thinking they should have smaller operations and it's mandatory that the CEO eat the school lunches at a public school location once a month. Think the food is so healthful? Eat it.

  3. I never been a fan of cooked school lunches.
We took sandwiches from home as kids and if you could you would swap with someone else if you didn't like what you had and you shared you lunch if your friends didn't have any, sometimes fruit was provided in the afternoon and milk in the morning but I hated the milk in summer it was left in the sun and often was yucky
I don't think cut lunches from home are much of a thing now most schools would have canteens now ours was a new school and the canteen only worked two days a week.

    1. People here seem to think poor kids would suddenly DIE if they cut the free food. It's just not true.

Bringing Garbage Home

Some people up the street were throwing this table away. It was in pretty bad shape and one of the legs was off. I've glued the leg back...
