Send Kids to School, Keep Your Job

Should school board members be required to send their children to public schools?

Abby Freedman was elected to a Florida school board last November.  She's since withdrawn her son from public school and is sending him to an expensive private school.

Do you think she should be required to quit her post or re-enroll her son?

  1. No, I don't think she should. It shouldn't matter where she sends her child as long as she does her job properly.

    1. I would agree, though it DOES bother me when I see politicians talk about how great public schools are... when they send their kids to private...

  2. Clearly her job has taught her some things about the schools that are unpalatable. If she does her homework, so to speak, I am sure she will find precedents that prevent them from yanking her job. I'm sure people with no kids have been on the board, and I even know of home schooling parents who have been on school board.

    1. I think in the end, we're all taxpayers whether we have children in school or not. That means we have some sayso on how things go. Though it DOES rankle me a fair bit to see old people grouse about "kids don't need this or that" when they have NO idea what they are talking about. In this century, YES, you need those things. *shrug*

  3. It seems strange that she's on the school board, but chose to send her child to a private school. It suggests she doesn't think the public school is good enough for HER child. Interesting.

Bringing Garbage Home

Some people up the street were throwing this table away. It was in pretty bad shape and one of the legs was off. I've glued the leg back...
