Another Homeschooling Abuse Case.

When it's a homeschooling family that goes wackadoodle, it's about the homeschooling or the fundamentalism.  But when a public school family goes crazy, it's about "poverty" or "culture" or "mental illness."  Go check the news sometime and see if I'm not right.

Now, look.  I'm not saying child abuse didn't happen in the most recently publicized case.  But I sure wouldn't bet a whole lot of money that it did, either, particularly as the teen witness to the alleged abuse didn't report it until years later as an adult.  Don't give me this "victims are trapped" bullcrap.  This ain't Pakistan or Yemen.

And the very fact that the allegations are published in some "let's talk about the horrid things that happen in homeschooling families and how we need to regulate these people" type blog also should give people a bit of pause.  (That's one reason why I'm not linking, by the way.)

Like I said:  I'm not saying abuse didn't or did happen.  That's a question for DFS and the courts and so on.  What I am saying is that people love to jump on this kind of crap, because they want to "prove" that homeschooling is bad, or wrong, or is somehow "led" by a bunch of child-molesting, patriarchal weirdos who believe in things like using essential oils to combat Ebola.

There are so many new homeschoolers out there it's just incredible.  I frequently come across new homeschooling parents who I'll bet don't even know who Mary Pride is, let alone most of the people at the center of this crapola.  So to be all triumphant about this family's problems 1. probably isn't going to affect the homeschooling community too very much, and 2. is really poor form.  Publicizing the identities of allegedly molested children?  Yeah, that's pretty much what you are doing when you print the names of their parents.

Classy.

  1. You are right it happens everywhere but the news does home in on various areas and report everything often blowing out the story but they will move on, the trouble is often the news is based on what will make a good story and the truth often gets lost.

    1. I hope that whatever the truth is, that it is made clear. We just don't all need to know it, yk?

  2. Essential oils to combat Ebola?? Amazing how some people's minds work.
As for the abuse thing, I can understand a little kid keeping quiet for years, but not a teen, unless they are so cowed down by it. On the other hand, think about all those domestic violence victims who are adults, yet too afraid to speak up. so, like you said, we can never really know. And of course home-schooling is completely irrelevant in this case.

    1. Domestic abuse victims I can understand staying... while they formulate a good exit plan. Too many stories in the news about exes finding new addresses and so on.

  3. You obviously know nothing about abuse and how long it takes a child to somehow say what happened. Your focus seems to be on defending homeschooling on all fronts no matter what. Abuse happens everywhere.

Since you provided no information, I have no idea what "case" you are talking about. Teens are afraid of the consequences of telling. It happens all the time. Mostly, the adult has convinced the teen he/she was complicity or will get in trouble for what happened or (worst of all) that the victim needs to be quiet so the abuser will not get into trouble. Adults are fearful of talking about ongoing abuse.

Are you aware that some people homeschool children to hide their abuse?

    1. And are you aware that when you comment with a nasty tone on someone's blog, particularly when you haven't established any sort of rapport with the poster, that you come off as a whiny little troll?

Further comments from you will be deleted, because you didn't want to bring up your points in a respectful manner.

  4. I believe I know what family you are talking about... and I also know that there are plenty of schooled families that treat their kids the same way. Sometimes I feel like it takes a certain amount of crazy to even want to be a TV family anyway.

Bringing Garbage Home

Some people up the street were throwing this table away. It was in pretty bad shape and one of the legs was off. I've glued the leg back...
