  1. As one of 10 kids with a father who was a bartender----it wasn't me. Maybe the later kids, who had "rich" parents, unlike when we were growing up and "our" parents were poor. (Same parents.)

    1. Yep! My younger kids are getting smarter (but more tired) parents than their older sibs. Wonder how that happened?

  2. Out here the cool kids had sets of Derwent colouring pencils. The really, really cool kids or the rich kids had the complete 72 pencil set. Who knew there were so any shades of brown?

  3. Actually my maternal grandmother sent me a box of 64 crayons with a sharpener--and I had markers too! I guess I was one of the very fortunate/blessed!

  5. Merle and River, I went to school outside Sydney and we had the Faber-Castell pencils. We'd sort of sharpen them weird and use the shavings to shade our pictures with our fingers. :)

Bethany - you're a cool kid! With a cool grandmother!

  6. I had some Faber-Castell and did the shading thing too. It made for more realistic colouring for skies and clouds, faces too, delicately shaded with a mix of the lightest possible pink and tan.
