Yuck!

Here Elf and Emperor are in the "enthusiastic" phase of trying to make ice cream in our ice cream ball. Two hours later, we were all very dejected. I had ripped the skin of my knuckle off wrenching that thing and it never froze. It tasted like salt, but not like the salt you use at the table. Much, much worse. I literally felt sick all afternoon just from that one taste. Elf and Emperor had horrible faces after tasting the stuff as well. I won't be cruel enough to post pics of that. But we followed the recipe. What went wrong? I'm guessing it's the cream, perhaps. The salt we used specifically said that it was for ice-cream making. Hm.

  1. Can't help. I've made icecream but it was just milk, cream vanilla & maybe some egg if I remember corrctly frozen in the freezer. Part way through the freezing process you take it out, beat it furiously & pop it back in. I think you repeat the process & voila! Homemade icecream! Anything requiring the exertion your boys seem to be displaying looks like far too much hard work for me.

  2. You should have them make the cat litter cake instead, I just posted a link on my blog. It's such a boy thing...totally disgusting but edible, and pretty hilarious.

  3. Hi, I am Cynthia, a new Tea on Tuesdayer and I enjoyed visiting your blog. What a clan you have!! They all are adorable!

We've made wanna-be ice cream using some cone contraption the kids got as a gift a few years back. I would love to try my hand at real ice cream though. Too much fun!!

    Blessings,
    Cynthia

  7. Maybe you went too high-tech. I am a cheapskate (pardon the pun), so I found a do-it-yourself version online. I put the ingredients in a ziploc bag and then another ziploc bag. I put the bag, rock salt, and ice into a plastic sugar canister and taped it with duct tape. Then we rolled it back and forth.

  8. I wish I had read this before now. It is too late to help you. We had one, but it just didn't make enough ice cream to stisfy all of us.

But the ice cream goes in the metal end and the salt and stuff goes in the other end.

I am glad it turned out better the next time.

Bringing Garbage Home

Some people up the street were throwing this table away. It was in pretty bad shape and one of the legs was off. I've glued the leg back...
