Our New Church

The church I've been taking the children to since July (when I *finally* got off bedrest, remember?) has been meeting at the local school for three and a half years. But can you believe that they've purchased a building just a month ago? And that I can see the building from my house? It is literally two doors down and then across the street on the corner LOL. Since purchasing it about a month ago, the church folk have been remodeling and painting and knocking down walls... building a stage... whew!

The building literally had the old 70's shag carpet and the 70's decorations... and some really hideous PLASTIC flowers in built-in planters on either side of the altar. The pastor decided to donate all the beautiful old pews and the pulpit set to a black church just up the road (it's an AME, I'm thinking, and it was damaged heavily by the tornado a few years back). It was a big blessing to them and, now that the pews are gone and the chairs set up, I'm beginning to understand his decorating idea. You really CAN seat more people his way, and the room literally looks ten feet bigger in every direction. I guess they teach that stuff in seminary LOL!

Anyway, the church has had work days that, of course, I'm not participating in. I love painting and pulling carpet, but it isn't happening right now. Patrick obviously didn't do his share either LOL. But G has been by and helped a bit. Actually on the last work day, he played outside with most of the smaller elementary kids and kept them out of the parents' hair. And he enjoyed himself.

In any event, this morning is the FIRST SERVICE in the "new" building. Pretty exciting, eh? I never would have imagined that the church I brought the children to ACROSS TOWN would wind up being the church across the street.
