I'm usually pretty open and agreeable to about anything HSLDA or James Dobson might have to say... but I'll tell you... this little article demonstrates that I'm far from being a "dittohead," if you will.
Christopher Klicka is arguing in favour of homeschooling because homeschoolers do just as good a job as government schools. To my mind, that's NOT an argument. The argument should be centered upon WHOSE children these are and who has the right to raise them as they see fit. I do understand that if I choose to leave my children outside in shorts when the temperature is -75 degrees while I beat them with sticks in full view of everyone, that it's time for the law to intervene. But to my mind, you'd have to reeally be close to that for me to say that it's ok for ANYONE to take a child away, or tell the parents what to do with their children by law. It's YOUR child, and if you want to skip English literature altogether and teach him in Swahili instead of English I could care less.
The argument shouldn't be the superiority or even comparable equity of homeschooling. We all know that the educators make the laws and the tests and that our little Christian third-graders are going to flunk the "big bang theory" and evolutionist questions they may decide to put on state-mandated tests.
It also sends a little chill through my spine to hear him say that between parents caring for their children and STATE LAW protecting kids with regulations on hours, etc., that we can rest easily.
