Merry Christmas!

My father and his twin brother at Macy's, 1954.  Aren't they cute?  My dad tells me that they had to wear the same outfit all the time.  When one of them got dirty, they both had to change.

  1. I can remember this clearly. The bomber jackets (and matching snow pants!) were forest green -- and the jackets had fur-lined collars and cuffs. There were also fur-lined hats with ear flaps as well!
The Macy's Santa area was exactly as pictured in Miracle on 34th Street.
I'm pretty sure I'm the guy sitting on Santa's lap

    Have a Merry Xmas!

  2. I remember wearing the same clothes as my sister. It was the done thing back then, to dress siblings alike. We weren't twins. Mum would buy yards and yards of fabric and there'd be a skirt or blouse for her, dresses for my sister and me and if the fabric wasn't floral or pink, there'd be a matching shirt for my brother. In one way, that's a good thing, if a child wandered away and someone asked what they were wearing, you could point to the other kids and say, he/she looks just like that. In later years I made dresses for my girls from the same fabrics, but used different dress styles sometimes, to preserve individuality.

    3. Yes it was normal. My step brother and I were dresses alike. Or.... I dressed like my mom & 3 step sisters mostly for special occasions. There were 9 of us.. Picture a mashup of the Brady bunch and Goodtimes! I think my parents got bulk rates on buying our clothes in multiples. The worst part... As the youngest girl... Everyone's clothes were handed down to me so while the outfit may have been cute in 1975, by 1981, it was played out..

  3. We were dressed alike as kids, too. None of is twins...my mother just liked repetition. lol We are all named with a 'J' name, and she made us and bought us the same clothes. The only one who escaped the trauma was my baby brother born 10 years later...he got his own wardrobe. lol

    1. I had no idea!! Your J name is just a usual sort of everyday J name. It's like you were the Duggars or something before your time.

By the way, I looked just like 'Flick" (from "Christmas Story") in this outfit :)

Bringing Garbage Home

Some people up the street were throwing this table away. It was in pretty bad shape and one of the legs was off. I've glued the leg back...
