BABY Robins!

There are at least three in the nest, but this one in front is the pushiest. I don't know how this little thing could STAND for a second and get a raw worm from its mom. It has eyes shut, I think, and is fluffy. Aside from the beak, it doesn't really look like a robin at all.

The Puritan Baby Book

You might consider naming YOUR children one of these baby names that are a part of my family's heritage. Somebody needs to compile a BIG book of Puritan baby names, before gems like these are lost forever:

Thankful Snow. You'd think this would be an uncommon enough name that a simple google search for "Thankful Snow" would reveal nothing. You would be so, so wrong. Several results, presumably for different Thankful Snows, popped up. Mine was born in Massachusetts a very, very, verrrry long time ago.

Mehitable. It's a girl's name. There was more than one... they were actually able to find suitors and get married, too.

Lemon and Orange. These are BOYS' names. You know... like "Roelof" and "Evert." We actually have several Oranges in our family tree. One of the Oranges, of course, named his son Lemon. I guess he was tired of being called "Orange" after his own father and wanted to give his son something more citrus-y and different. :)

Keziah. Girl's name.

Jerusha. Also a girl's name.

And finally... what were "Silence Hurd"'s parents thinking? Silence. Heard. Were they humourous little Puritans, or was it just one of those funny mistakes people made??

PS. Emperor's name is boring by comparison. More than once I've been asked why I saddled the boy with such a name, or how could he ever learn to spell it, and things like that.

A Guest Post by Rose

Dear Faithful Readers,

My grandfather has brought it to my attention that there is some weird kid impersonating me. Don't be fooled. I'm in the top picture wearing my super-soft "Disney Princess" fleece shirt and she is wearing the wannabe "yodelling in Switzerland" getup in the lower picture with her Nana. Check out the cap and the embroidery on the jacket! Who put all that stuff on the poor kid and then photographed her? I mean, my parents love me so much that they would never allow an unflattering pic of me to be taken. And thankfully in these modern times, I have parents who would never post embarrassing photos of me pouting on the internet, either.

Girl Stuff for Winter

I took an "Elmo playing baseball blanket" I bought for Elf years ago for his toddler bed and have re-covered it with polarfleece flowers. I'm also showing you what Rose's jeans look like midway through their transformation into "girl" jeans. Sewing the little cuff at the bottom turns regular Levi's into something that will prevent D from treating Girlie like one of the boys. It is about that time to look at what I have ready for the coming winter and alter a few things to my liking. I take a very long time on each project as I get involved in other things often like changing diapers, homeschooling and blogging. :]

Rose is Happy.

When Rose is happy, she makes this sound. Do you think it is like a purring cat? Or more like a Star Trek tribble? She likes to talk when she is happy. Sometimes she will imitate clicking sounds or "dah-dah-dah, bah-bah-bah" kinds of things. She likes soft toys and Cheerios.

Pictures at My House.

A few weeks ago, I was trying to take pictures of all kinds of everyday items for a "rec id" book for J. It would be a book with his bed, toothbrush, pillow and other things he uses every day. This was my attempt at a "TV" picture. Somehow, someone ALWAYS gets in the way when I'm trying to take pictures. This time it was the girl's fault my picture didn't turn out well.

Bad Hair Day!

Every day! My mom carefully does my hair in a little pony in the morning. I look so cute before 8 a.m. Then my brother tries to steal my hair doodle and EAT IT! It isn't fair that all my fashion accessories are drooled upon!

Must... Squeeze... Into... Dress!

Our very favourite, favourite, favourite outfit was sent to us by Casdok when S was just two months old. S has been wearing it straight from the laundry after her baths. It's getting hard to squeeze the girl in now. Her dad pays special attention to her when she wears it, and bet you even at this age she feels pretty in it. I've looked all over for a dress nearly so special. It seems that all the little, tiny girl dresses are cute, and then when you get to a 2T size, the skirts only go down to the upper thigh and spaghetti-straps are the order of the day. I'll be very sad the day we can no longer bend S's chubby little arm into the sleeves LOL! Meanwhile, we're enjoying every minute of the soft frills.

Hairdo.

You know, if you're doomed to wear all of your older brothers' hand-me-downs, complete with orange spit-up stains, the least you can do is ask your Mommy to do your hair up in a pretty style. There. It's long enough now that we have TWO hairstyles we can do now.

Mama's Ballerina

Every night, Girlie tap-tap-taps her little dainty feet on her playpen. She can be heard all the way downstairs. I call her Mama's Ballerina. D rolls his eyes and says, um, she will always be "heavy-boned," OK?

Tell me that isn't true! See how itsy she is? She just doesn't have an eating disorder (or just look like it) like the classic ballerina type. She has a good appetite but she's NOT chubby. Every baby should have fat rolls on the knees *and* dimples.

The Bow MAKES The Outfit.

Just admit it makes her face look much thinner, and you have a friend for life. Extra points for saying that it looks like it complements any summer wardrobe and that we need several different colours to coordinate with various outfits. Super bonus points if you say S is pretty. Yes, the camera came back from the shop today and I've been going crazy snapping photos.

A Late-Night Smile

I was trying to get baby J to sleep and could hear him making silly sounds so she'd smile. I think it worked.

Mom, Don't Blog About This!

Baby S is now two months old! D has been pretty adamant about NOT buying any clothes for her. So aside from a few garage sale finds and a dress Casdok sent, she's been dressing like a boy. Now I have a whole tote of clothes from my local friendly pharmacist! Yayyy... She took pity on me, I guess, and has been very generous. Only problem is, the girl is a little WIDE for many of the clothes. You don't think she's ... you know... chubby or anything, do you? Must be that all the clothes have somehow shrunk.

More Baby S Pics!

We did our home ec time today and made a pizza. We read a little while it was cooking. Baby S was reasonably cooperative. J threw Dorito crumbs on the floor and then got upset that he had no Doritos. He's also upset that I took pictures of his sister this morning and not him.

Happenings at the House

Well...  I've absolutely neglected this blog. I kept meaning to get back to it but then what do you say. Sometimes I just peek at other...
